Shane Oliver, Chief Economist of AMP Financial Services in Australia, said that the Reserve Bank of Australia is expected to cut interest rates starting in February. He said that the currency market indicates a 69% chance of a rate cut in February. Oliver said that the Reserve Bank of Australia should start cutting interest rates no later than May, and it is expected that there will be at least three rate cuts by 2025. He said: “It should be noted that although Trump’s policies may increase US inflation and interest rates, these policies have ambiguous or even potentially negative effects on Australia’s growth and inflation.” Oliver added that the new committee is unlikely to change the interest rate path from March.
