Russia bans crypto mining in 10 regions for 6 years

On December 24th, according to TASS, starting from January 1st, 2025, Russia will fully ban cryptocurrency mining in 10 regions (Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, Chechnya, Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions) for six years. The ban will last until March 15th, 2031. Russian lawmakers also approved seasonal restrictions on major cryptocurrency mining areas to prevent power outages. These restrictions are consistent with the Russian cryptocurrency mining law signed by the president in August and October 2024.
